Grasmere used to be thought of the sleepy sister of Ambleside, the village you pass on the way to Keswick but not now, it’s a hub of excitement, change and development.

Grasmere as a destination to make a base when visiting the Lake District, the UK’s newest and largest UNESCO World Heritage Site, has grown beyond expectations in the last five years. Quaint and pretty, the village has managed to remained despite the rise in popularity which is attributed to the fact the main A591 road bypasses the village unlike Ambleside.

Grasmere has superfast broadband, has seen a number of businesses open shops and eateries in the village including a Herdy gift store and Cunninghams the independent outdoor retailer and of course the famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop. Grasmere now offers food both local and from the world in the form of cafes right through to fine dining and even Michelin Star at the Forest Side Restaurant.

Having bought and taken over an already successful business, they didn’t simply sit back. Making changes to the lounge and communal areas right from the start to the lastest exciting development, the new Rothay Suite.
